Chapter 46: 10-12
Laws Pertaining to Forbidden Foods 10. One may eat dairy after eating foods which contains neither meat or fat
from meat, but was cooked in a pot used to cook meat. This applies even if
the pot was not thoroughly clean.*
* {Similarly, after eating meat, one may eat food that has been cooked in a
dairy pots (Lechem Haponim). }
11. It is permitted to eat immediately after eating dairy products, as part
of a second meal. However, one must wash one's hands or check to see that
none of the dairy products are stuck to them. Similarly, one must clean
one's teeth and wash one's mouth.
[Different rules apply to] hard cheese - i.e., cheese that has been left in
rennin for six months or cheese with worms. A person who eats such cheese
must wait six hours before eating meat.
12. A person who wants to eat meat after eating dairy must remove all
pieces of bread that were eaten together with the dairy from the table. It
is forbidden to eat dairy on the same tablecloth upon which meat was eaten.
The converse also applies.
It is also forbidden to cut bread to be eaten with dairy foods with a knife
that is used for meat. This applies even though the knife is clean. The
converse also applies. In an extreme situation - e.g., one is on a journey
- one may cut bread to be eaten with dairy with a knife used for meat,
provided that it is thoroughly clean. A similar leniency applies with
regard to a knife used for dairy products.
