Chapter 47: 7-9
Laws Pertaining to Wine
7. When grapes are pressed in a tank, as soon as even the slightest amount
of juice has begun to flow from them - alternatively, after one has taken
out some wine from them with a container - the entire mixture is considered
to be wine. It becomes forbidden if touched by a non-Jew, even if the
latter only touched the grape seeds or peels.
Therefore, tanks of pressed grapes stored in a non-Jew's home are
forbidden, out of fear that the non-Jew has extracted wine from them. It is
forbidden to charge a non-Jew with the pressing of grapes even when using a
closed tank.
8. Care should be taken not to have a non-Jew remove the grape seeds and
peel from a tank. This applies even after one has already taken out the
first and second grades of wine, for the possibility exists that they are
still moist with wine.
9. Should a non-Jew pour water into wine, [the following rules apply]: if
his intention was to prepare it for drinking, it is forbidden to be drunk.
If he did not intend to prepare it for drinking, even if there is a doubt
concerning that, it is permitted.
