Chapter 49: 10-12
The Blessings for Wine

10. The blessing hatov v'hameitiv is recited only when one does not know whether the second type of wine is of lesser or greater quality than the first. However, if it is known that it is of lesser quality than the first, no blessing is recited before partaking of it. However, if it is more beneficial to the body's health than the first, even if its taste is inferior to the first, the blessing hatov v'hameitiv is recited before drinking it.

11. The blessing hatov v'hameitiv may be recited for the second type of wine even if [the host] possessed it originally, provided it was not before him at the time the blessing borey pri hagofen was recited. However, if both types of wine were on the table before him, one should not recite hatov v'hameitiv. Rather, one should recite borey pri hagofen on the superior wine, with the intention of including the inferior.

12. The blessing hatov v'hameitiv is recited only when [the host] possesses more of the first type of wine and his company desires to drink the second, in order to change wines. When, however, the second type of wine is brought out only because none of the first type remains, hatov v'hameitiv is not recited.
