Chapter 60:10-12
Blessing Recited over Unusual Sights
10. A person who sees a king should recite the blessing: Boruch Attoh
A-d-o-n-o-i E-l-o-h-e-i-n-u Melech ho'olom shenosan mik'vodo l'vosor vodom.
(Blessed are You, G-d, our Lord, King of the Universe, Who gave of His
glory to flesh and blood.)
One may recite this blessing even if one does not actually see the king,
but rather sees the honor rendered to him and knows for sure that the king
is present. A blind man should recite this blessing without mentioning
G-d's name and His sovereignty over the world.
It is a mitzvah to try to see the honor rendered to kings. However, a
person who has seen such honor once should not negate his Torah studies to
witness it a second time, unless the king comes with a greater retinue of
soldiers or is afforded greater honor than at the previous occasion.
11. A person who sees Jewish graves should recite the blessing: Boruch
Attoh A-d-o-n-o-i E-l-o-h-e-i-n-u Melech ho'olom sher yotzar eschem badin
v'zon eschem badin v'chilkel eschem badin v'heimis eschem badin v'yode'a
mispar koolchem v'hu osid l'hachayos'chem u'likayem eschem badin. Boruch
Attoh Ado-noi mechayeh hameisim. (Blessed are You, G-d, our Lord, King of
the Universe, Who created you in judgement, sustained you in judgement,
provided for you in judgement, and caused your death. He knows your entire
number and in the future will resurrect you and maintain you in judgement.
Blessed are You, Who resurrects the dead.)
12. All the above mentioned blessings over unusual sights should not be
repeated if one saw the exact same sight again without a full thirty-day
interval passing between the time the blessing was first recited and the
second time one saw this sight.* However, if one sees another sight,
different from the one for which he recited the blessing - e.g., one sees a
different king or different graves - one should recite the blessing again
within the thirty days.
* {The day on which the blessing was recited and the day when the sight is
seen against should not be counted in these thirty days.}
