Chapter 76:3-4 The Sabbath and Festival Prayer
3. [A slight grammatical change is made in the blessing for the Shabbos,
each time the Shmoneh Esrei (Silent prayer) is recited:] In the evening
service, we say "Ve'yonuchu VOH" (the word "Voh," meaning "during it," is
in the feminine form; the two words together mean: "May they (the Jews)
rest during it (i.e., on Shabbos)) . In the morning and Musaf services, we
say "Ve'yonuchu VO" (here, "Vo" is in the masculine form), and in the
afternoon service we say "Ve'yonuchu VOM" ("vom" is the plural form).
4. After the Shemoneh Esrei of the evening service is recited silently by
the congregants, the verses beginning with the word "Vay'chulu" (Genesis
2:1-3) are recited communally. These verses should be recited while
standing because it is our testimony to the fact that G-d created the
universe, and witnesses are required to stand when delivering testimony.
