Chapter 79:6 The Recitation of Maftir
6. On a Shabbos when two Torah portions are combined, the Haftorah of the
second portion is recited, with the exception of "Acharei Mos" -
"Kedoshim", for which [the passage beginning] "Halo chivnei Chushi'im"
(Amos 9:7), [the Haftorah generally read for "Acharei Mos"], is recited.
In some Chumashim, [the passage beginning] "Vayivrach Yaakov..." (Hoshea
12:13) is mistakenly noted as the Haftorah for the portion "Vayishlach."
Rather, this passage should be read as the Haftorah of the portion
"Vayetzeh"(1). The Haftorah of "Vayishlach" [begins with the words] "Chazon
Ovadiah."
FOOTNOTES:
(1) Sefardim begin the Haftorah of "Vayetzeh" from the passage "V'ami
teluim..." (Hoshea 11:7); some Sefardic communities continue until Hoshea
13:5, thereby overlapping the portion read by the Ashkenazim beginning with
the words "Vayivrach Yaakov.."
