Chapter 19: 13&14
Laws Pertaining to Additions
13. A chazon who erred in the Shemoneh Esreh he recited in a hushed tone
need not recite this prayer a second time, because of the encumbrance this
will cause the congregation. Rather, he may rely that he will pray
correctly during his recitation of the Shemoneh Esreh out loud. (Therefore,
after his prayers he recites the passage Elo-hai n'tzor... and take three
steps back.)
However, if he made a mistake in the first three blessings and remembered
before he completed his prayers, at a point which would not overburden the
congregation, he should repeat his prayers.*
* {The Mishnoh Beruroh 126:17 brings a more lenient opinion, which does not
require the chazon to repeat his prayers at all.}
14. On a fast day, both a communal fast and a fast accepted by an
individual, the prayer Aneinu is added in the blessing Shema koleinu in the
afternoon service. After the phrase, b'chol eis tzoroh v'tzukoh, one
returns to the regular text and concludes ki Attoh shome'a...
A person who forgot to recite Aneinu and did not recall until after he
recited G-d's name in the blessing shome'a tefilloh should not recite it
until he concludes the entire Shemoneh Esreh. Then, before he leaves his
place of prayer, after he recites the prayer Elo-hai n'tzor, he should
recite the Aneinu prayer until the phrase b'chol eis tzoroh v'tzukoh. Then
he recites the verse Yih'yu l'rotzon.
If he did not remember until after he leaves his place of prayer, he should
not recite it all all.
