Chapter 22: 7-10
Laws Pertaining to Tachanun
7. Tachanun is not recited if a groom is present in the synagogue on any of
the seven days after the wedding, provided that either the bride or the
groom ad not been married previously. However, if a widower marries a
widow, Tachanun is recited after three days.
Should the groom be present in the synagogue on the day of the wedding,
Tachanun is recited in the morning service,* but not in the afternoon service.
* {The Mishnoh Beruroh 131:21 mentions opinions which state that Tachanun
should be omitted in the morning service as well.}
8. Tachanun is not recited on Rosh Chodesh, the 15th of Av, the 15th of
Shevat, during Chanukah, on both days of Purim [i.e., even Shushan Purim],
on both days of Purim Katan, on Lag B'Omer, during the entire month of
Nisan, on Tisha B'Av, on the days between Yom Kippur and Sukkos, from Rosh
Chodesh Sivan until after the day following Shavuos,* and on the day
following Sukkos.**. Tachanun is also omitted in the Mincha service which
precedes all these days.
* {In many communities, Tachanun is not recited until the thirteenth of Sivan.}
** {In many communities, after Yom Kippur, Tachanun is not recited during
all the remaining days of the month of Tishrei.}
Tachanun is also omitted on the day before Rosh Hashanah and the day before
Yom Kippur. Tachanun is, however, recited in the afternoon service
preceding these days. On the day before Rosh Hashanah, Selichos are also
recited before the morning service. However, afterwards, Tachanun is not
recited.
9. Mondays and Thursdays are "days of favor," for during the forty days
associated with receiving the second tablets, Moses ascended [Mt. Sinai] on
a Thursday and descended on a Monday. Therefore, we recite many prayers of
supplication on these days, reciting the collection of prayers beginning
V'hu rachum before Tachanun.
These prayers are recited while one is standing. They should be said with
concentration and deliberately, in a manner of supplication. On the days
when Tachanun in not recited, these prayers are also omitted.
10. After Tachanun, the half-Kaddish is recited. On Mondays and Thursdays,
the prayer Eil erech apayim is also recited (while one is standing).
Chapter 25, Law 2 mentions on which days this prayer is omitted.
