One explanation from the Lubavitcher Rebbe (ztzk"l) that I had first
rejected and later on found quite elegant:

One looks a painting. One can imagine oneself in that scene, with those
people, living that landscape. In fact, the artist has painted an entire
history.

So, "old" stones and fossils are found? Radioisotope dating and other
calculations yield billions of years? The greates artist of them all and
given us a perfect creation, everything in place!

Not to be too dogmatic about 5757 +- 0 earth-years, I think that the
calculations mentioned in digest 96 are gevaldig! Indeed, perfect.
