There have been many postings over the meaning of bizbus. It is true that in
modern Hebrew it has the connotation of waste such as "bizbuz zman," a waste
of time. I misplaced my Judaic library with its Gemara search function so I
can't find the quote off hand but I remember a Gemara that says "Hamevazvaiz
al yevazvaiz yoser m'chomesh" - He who spends money on a mitzvah such as
tefillin, mezuzah, lulav and esrog....should not spend more than a 5th (maybe
it said 6th) of his money on the mitzvah. Better to do without that mitzvah
than spend more than a 5th of his savings. Clearly the Gemara there does not
mean waste money on a mitzvah. So in this case there is a difference
between Modern Hebrew and Talmudic Hebrew.
