I saw the query of <mcohen@servms.fiu.edu> on Torah Forum and
tried to respond to her directly. Unfortunately, my server got the
message back with a message that it was unable to deliver it for some
reason. Therefore, I am posting it here in the hope the questioner will
see my reply.

The question was: what will the time of Havadala [the departure of
the Sabbath] be in Madras, India on January 3, 5758?

Madras, India is at 13 degrees N latitude and 80 degrees 10
minutes 59 seconds E longitude and is 5.5 time zones east of Greenwich.
If my info so far is correct, sunrise on that date (Jan. 3, 5758) is at
5:14 AM and sunset is at 4:37 PM. Shabbos ends at 5:13 PM
which is the time when the sun is 8 degrees and 30 minutes below
the horizon.
