The source for not getting married on Shabbos is in Shulchan Oruch, Orach
Chaim Siman 339. It is mentioned in Kitzur Shulchan Oruch Siman 148 and to
quote Rabbi Eliyahu Touger's translation except what is in parenthesis: It
is not permitted to formalize a business relationship on the Sabbath. Since
the marriage bond is also a contractual relationship, Nisu'in (marriage)
cannot be completed on the Sabbath. For this reason, if a wedding was held
on a Friday, we must be careful that the "yichud" (where the bride and groom
spend time after the Chupah in a private room) which completes the
marriage bond, be carried out before the Sabbath.
