Did I miss a day?

Several weeks ago I flew on a direct flight from San Francisco to London.
The plane left at 11am (SF time) and arrived in London the next day at 1pm
(London time). Because the plane flew north east, over the polar region, it
was never dark, and was bright out the whole time. I did Mincha, but didn't
know what to do for Maariv, so I didn't. Did I lose a Maariv?
On the way back we left around 11am (London) time and because of the polar
region and that the plane was going west, the same thing happened, it was
daylight the whole time. Very strange.
