Readers have probably heard this one before too: That Jewish law and sages
were extolling/protecting the Jewish woman while women were still being
sold as chattle-slaves in such civilized countries as Britain.

No patronization intended. The Jewish Woman is the center, the foundation
of the Jewish household. This is a formidble status and responsibility.
There is a division of duties between men and women. This is natural and in
most cases
desirable. This does not justify condescention, patronization or
discrimination.

Unfortunately, many women wish to become rabbis without ever lighting
Shabas candles or using the mikveh. Our spiritual fulfillment, never an
easy or obvious task, comes through the pathways given us in our
traditions. At least,
let us start there....
