>I was taught that if I missed davening (praying) Mincha (afternoon prayers)
>within the prescribed time, that I had to daven (pray) two Shemoneh Esreis
>during Maariv (evening prayers).
>What is the source of this Halacha (Jewish law)? Does doubling one's evening
>prayers remedy the void created by not praying in the afternoon? It sounds
>analogous to the maxim that if you accidentally violate Shabbos (the Sabbath)
>that one should give extra charity during the week.
In Babylonian Talmud Meseches B'rachot, Chapter 4, in the beginning, it
talks about the times for each of the services. In the first G'mara, it
says that if you ACCIDENTALLY forget a Tefillah, that you can repeat it in
most cases. If you forget it purposely, then you may not repeat it.
