Rabbi Avraham Weiss (i.e. Avi Weiss) presents a thorough discussion of
the halakhic and social issues involved in women's prayer groups in his
book "WOMEN AT PRAYER". Rabbi Weiss is a major proponent of such groups,
and he argues that they are halakhically permissible and, in many
communities, highly appropriate.

In order to get at the issue of women's prayer groups, Rabbi Weiss provides
a thorough and well footnoted discussion of the halakhic issues involved in
all aspects of prayer and public reading, with a particular emphasis on
those areas where there are differences for men and women. Even if one is
not particularly interested in women's tefilah groups, "WOMEN AT PRAYER"
is an excellent reference source for gender issues in public and private
prayer.
