I feel compelled to correct a misstatement quoted in the name of Rabbi
Daniel Lapin in Commentary Magazine. Rabbi Lapin states that the Founding
Fathers of the United States were basically religiously conservative. The
Founding Fathers such as Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, Payne and Adams
were basically agnostics. They based their beliefs on Kante, Rousseau and
other humanists and not on religion. Any reference to Hashem that is
found on coins or in the Declaration of Independence etc. was forced on
them by those in the 1st Continental Congress who were religiously
conservative. Otherwise, I thought the quotes by Rabbi Lapin were quite
compelling.
