Slaves are to be treated AT LEAST as well as the owner treats himself: same
quality lodgings, same quality food. Jewish slaves are either paupers or
thieves who work off their debt in a home setting, thus becoming
rehabilitated by being exposed to a wholesome family life. The term of
slavery is finite, unless the slave insists on staying, which is
discouraged by the Torah.
