In Torah forum #94 the question of what to feed the fish on Passover was
posted. I feed my fish pure shrimp and shrimp flakes which are sold in all
pet shops where fish are sold. As to the question of leftover Chometz
[leaven] in the tank - while it probably is a good idea to cleanout the
tank and gravel one doesn't have to worry too much about the leftovers -
any decomposed fish food that is mixed in the gravel is certainly "nifsal
maachilat kelev," too despicable to be consumed even by a dog. This is the
usual criteria for determining whether food is still chometz or not. It's
probably a good idea to have a catfish or two in the tank. They are bottom
feeders and do a very efficient job of eating the leftovers from the
bottom. The decomposed food can poison the water and kill the fish otherwise.
