Lisa Wright asks:
<<I've been reading the book of Genesis again lately and there are some
things about it that really bother me. The first chapter goes through the
creation of the earth in "7 days". The second chapter then goes into the
creation of Eden and Adam and Eve. Looking at the two, it's difficult to
determine if these are two separate creative efforts, or two different
accounts of the same one.>>
Rav Soloveitchik has an extended essay entitled "Lonely Man of Faith" that
addresses this issue. His main thesis is that there are two types of man
being described as what I would refer to as theological man and scientific
man. It is a great study of the philosophic differences in religious and
scientific outlook on life. It is available in book form and has been
reprinted in several journals.
