Regarding prayer as a substitute for sacrifices, I believe a major point is
being missed. Even during the time of the Korbanos (sacrifices), there were
people who were praying at the time the Korban was brought, that it (the
Korban) should be accepted. These people were called Anshei Mamad, as
stated in Gemmara Tanis. So we see that prayer was always an integral part
of the sacrifices.
