Jewish History: Biblical History: Isaac's Blindness and the Akedah:

Did Isaac's sight fail because of his traumatic experience at the Akedah?

The Midrashim (on Gen. 27:1) give many reasons why his sight failed, but all agree that it didn't happen until he was an old man. Rashi's commentary can be taken to imply that it failed at the time of the akedah, but the Midrash Rabbah that Rashi is quoting says explicitly that it didn't happen until he grew old.
