Jewish History: Biblical History: Jeremiah:

What can you tell me about the prophet Jeremiah?

Jeremiah is identified (in the first verse of the Book of Jeremiah) as a Kohen from the city of Anasos in the territory of Benjamin. He is said (Talmud, Megillah 14b) to be a descendant of Rachav, the harlot who saved Joshua's spies (see Joshua Ch. 2). In addition to the book of his prophecies, he wrote the Book of Kings and the Scroll of Lamentations (Talmud, Bava Basra 15a).
