The Basics of Judaism: Jewish Texts: The Name Nissim:

What is the source of the name "Nissim"?

The name doesn't seem to have been used by any of the sages of the Talmud or by any of the Geonim; it seems to be of Persian origin. There were several famous rabbis named Nissim -- for example, Rabbi Nissim "Gaon" (ca. 990-1062) in Kairouan, and Rabbi Nissim Gerondi (ca.1310-1375) in Spain.
