What animal was the Tachash whose skin was used in the Tabernacle?
The Talmud (Shabbos 28:a-b) tells us that it was a multicolored
kosher animal that had one horn, and that it has not existed
since Moses' time. Some scholars think that it may have been the
giraffe, which is kosher and multicolored; but giraffes have more
than one horn, and they still exist. Some English versions of the
Bible translate "Tachash skins" as "goatskins"; goats are kosher,
but otherwise they don't fit the Talmud's description.
