Jewish History: The Great Rabbis: Rabbi Meir Ba'al ha-Nes:

Who was Rabbi Meir Ba'al ha-Nes?

Scholars differ as to the identity of Rabbi Meir Ba'al ha-Nes, whose tomb is on the shore of Lake Kinneret, near Tiberias. Some say he was the Tanna Rabbi Meir, about whom a miracle is related in the Talmud, but others identify him with later rabbis. Prayers to "the G-d of Meir" are believed to be effective for guarding against illnesses and dangers, and for having children and finding lost objects; no doubt they would also be helpful for finding a spouse.
