Prayer and Religious Articles: Prayer and Blessings: B'CHOL M'ODECHA:

What is the meaning of "b'chol m'odecha" in the Shema?

The phrase "b'chol m'odecha" is interpreted in several ways by the sages. The translation "with all your money" in the Mishnah (Berachos 9:5) is intended for a person whose possessions are more dear to him than his life (R. Eleazar in Sifrei). R. Akiva's interpretation is "for anything that He measures out to you, thank him very greatly" (a play on the words "middah" and "me'od"). Another interpretation, found in another midrash, is "with all your strength".
