Did the necromancer really raise Samuel's spirit to speak to Saul?
Many of the commentaries take the necromancy literally, but Rambam
(on Mishnah Sanhedrin 7:7) says that the voices produced by a
necromancer are illusory, and Ralbag (on 1 Sam.28:8) says that
a necromancer stimulates the questioner's imagination.
