The Basics of Judaism: Jewish Texts: Ezekiel's Vision:

What did Ezekiel see in 1:26-28?

When G-d spoke to people. He often showed them bright lights. Moses saw a burning bush, and the people at Mount Sinai saw what looked like fire on the top of the mountain. The elders at Mount Sinai saw a figure standing on a sapphire floor (Ex.24:10), and Isaiah (6:1) saw a figure sitting on a throne. Ezekiel saw a fiery display that looked like a man on a sapphire throne; Isaiah may have seen the same thing, but Ezekiel gave a more detailed description.
