Why did Moses make a copper snake, and what happened to it?
Moses made a copper snake and put it on a pole to demonstrate to
the people that they could be saved from the plague of snakes if
they raised their eyes to heaven (Talmud Rosh Ha-Shanah 29a). But
in later generations the people began to worship the copper snake,
so King Hezekiah destroyed it (2 Kings 18:4).
