The Targum translates "Ha-Elkoshi" as "Mi-Beis Koshi", and
Ibn Ezra and RaDaK aren't sure whether "Elkoshi" refers to
Nachum's city or to one of his ancestors. If it was his city,
not much is known about where it might be located. Several
towns had traditions that they were Nachum's place, including
Alkush in Assyria and Kefar Nachum in the Galil, but a location
in Judah is more likely because Nachum's prophecy was addressed
to Judah (e.g.,2:1).
