Jewish History: The Great Rabbis: The Kaf ha-Chayim:

What can you tell me about the author of the Kaf ha-Chayim?

The Kaf ha-Chayim, by R.Yaakov Chayim b.Yitzchak Baruch Sofer of Bagdad, was published in Jerusalem between 1905 and 1933. (R.Chayim Palagi published a book with the same title in Saloniki in 1859.) The author was born in 1870 and died in 1939. According to an introduction to the 1963 edition of the Kaf ha-Chayim, published in Jerusalem by the author's son, he moved from Bagdad to Jerusalem in 1909, where he was associated with the Yeshiva Shoshanim le-David, which was established by the Bagdadi community in Jerusalem.
