The Temple: The Kohen Gadol in the Holy of Holies:
What would have happened if a Kohen Gadol had died in the Holy of Holies?
The Talmud (Yoms 53b) tells about the people worrying about
a Kohen Gadol who spent too much time (praying) in the
Holy of Holies; this implies that they had no way of reaching
him there. But the Zohar (Achrei Mos 67a; Emor 102a) says that
a rope was attached to the Kohen Gadol, so his body could be
pulled out if he died there.
