CNN (and MSNBC to a certain degree) are repugnant, just like Europe and the Europeans.

Yes, I feel CNN has become more Anti Israel these days. Who knows why?

I suggest u find out who really controls the US media and find out their agenda.

I agree with your view of CNN being a biased and a "news filtered to benefit a particular goal" set-up. Your analysis of CNN's historical pattern of one-sided reporting stems from how they suggest the reality be veiwed. I also agree with you that the media has an obligation (this is what we pay for) to report the news in a sober and unaltered fashion. The truth is the truth and should not be sugarcoated to suit anyone person, group, organization, or political agenda. But then there is a side to your arguement that is as attractive as it is repulsive. The reason CNN MUST report violence between Israel and "Palestine" - remember, there is no Palestine - is because like any situation of WAR that has been arrived at by a set of decaying political negotiations, the aggressor-party will always be viewed disfavorably in the news. You have to try and understand that between the lines written on CNN lies human passion. Writers certainly have a sense of justice, wrong doing and truthfullness. Agreeably, the news may be colored to suit the Palestinians, but to what degree? What are the Palestinians really guilty of? After answering this almost rhetorical question, ask your self what are the Israelis guilty of. I'm sure that the balance sheet will prove that Israel is not necessarily the subject of biased news reporting, but the opponent of a society that is struggling to rid itself of its circumstances laid upon them by the force of aggression dictated by Israel's forceful ambition to take the land away from the Palestenians. History is not CNN and CNN is NOT history. We all know the truth and the truth should not be reduced to the historical shortcomings of a news conduit.

Another view point. Although I personally agree with what you are saying, I must point out something. Two months ago, I spoke to someone who worked for CNN. He told me that CNN is not anti-semetic and its bias against Israel in the conflict is not based on anything except a basic media rule. The basic media rule is that you always side with the "underdog" against and make the other side look like a tyrant. There is no right or wrong, good or bad. Israel somehow is the big bulley beating up on its little weak Arab neighbors. The fact that the Israel is a tiny speck of dust compared to the size and power of the Arab nations surrounding it does not seem to matter. (I'm sure oil sales doesn't hurt them either.) The person I spoke to was disgusted with the politics and left CNN a few years back. He now works for a major software company.

I remember hearing a news report that stated the Arabs needed to do a better job of lobbying their point of view on the conflict in Israel and to turn world opinion away from Israel and for the Palestinians. I think we are seeing the fruits of their efforts. Also, we have a prevailing attitude here in the United States of the Secular society waging war against the value based Religious society and it is politically correct to be against Israel and for the Palestinians. Do we have such short memories about our first Lady Hillary Clinton’s speech while visiting the Palestinians speaking against the State of Israel?

The LA Times and the New York Times also seem to favor headlines that make Israel look bad.

I have to agreewith CG's comment, except in one respect: Israel can no longer present itself as the tiny speck trying to exist among a sea of hostile Arabs. She has proven herself to be a powerful military force capable of defending herself for 50 years against all enemies. The problem is that, while she has the capability to counter massive attacks with planes and tanks, she has yet to develop a way of dealing with infiltrators and snipers. Result: the media have a field day picturing the David and Goliath motif with Israel as the heavy. I believe that we should recognize this bias for what is it: headline grabbing rather than raw anti-semitism.

Absolutely true. PNN is a better name for the news station. I used to read the NY Times until I realized how they always poked fun at Orthodox Jews. I quit and sent a letter to the editor telling him I've bought my last NY Times paper. The only way to effect change is to stop going to their site. And let them know that we're advising others to stop going there as well.

This bias is not limited to CNN. In Canton, Ohio, the local newspaper reported recent events the exact same way, as CNN does, mentioning an act of retaliation, but ignoring the death of a young Jewish boy killed in the same area his father was murdered in. Our media also ignores the vile language that is used in Arab publications. They refer to Israel as "the Zionist entity" and refuse to even include on their map. We have to keep pointing these things out and setting the record straight.

Thank you for expressing how we all feel! Now we ALL need to write to CNN and voice our opinions. They are interested in hearing what we have to say if we give them specifics. D.E. 5/7/01

You hearts are in the right place, but your power is misguided. If you want to affect change - don't stop reading or watching the media - do send letters to their ADVERTISERS because no advertiser wants an angry or displaced consumer. - stop grumbling and name calling - start sending emails and hand-written letters to the editors AND the advertisers and let them know that you will take your money elsewhere. If you want to affect change in this persistent Israel-bashing movement, then complain to the FCC and let them know that the station or newspaper is not serving your local community because of their inflamatory reporting. The FCC already knows that these media outlets are biased, but if they are doing a disservice to the community - then you have a legal basis for complaint. Be like David and ask, "Who is this dog?"

You are right on target! However I would just like to point out that even when the President gave Arafat a stern warning to stop the violence and put the blame squarely on him for the recent uprising and I quote “Chairman Arafat must hear this loud and clear Stop the Violence” (back in the beginning of April) CNN reported Bush Condemns Israel and Palestinians for the violence. Their agenda is clearly defined. They do not report the news they twist it. If your readers to want to get the true story from the American perspective let me suggest 2 sites. 1. WWW.DRUDGEREPORT.COM 2. WWW.WASHINGTONPOST.COM

I'm not sure I agree with one of the comments that we should inform CNN, The NY Times, etc. that we will stop using them as an information base, due to their biased actions. A handful of passive jewish 'unpluggers' in liue of the rest of the secular viewing world isn't going to phase CNN at all. We will only hurt ourselves by not knowing what we are being painted to look like to the rest of the world. I feel an active approach would be more constructive. Articles like Mr. Berman's, need to be more often, and spread more publicly; all the way to International Media levels (if at all possible). We don't need to hide from the lies, but the world needs to hear the truth. Kol Hakavod, Mr. Berman, for your efforts.

I am a frequent viewer of CNN. However I have noticed, I thought it was just me, that CNN was focusing almost exclusively on Israel and protraying them as the aggressor. Also it struck as odd that the mentioning Palestinian aggression was almost non-existant. CNN should spend less time "touting the horn" that they are the number one news organization and concern themselves more with presenting the facts in a balanced manner.

Bravo!! finally someone putting into words what I should have long ago. CNN has chosen to pump the PLO cause to cash in on a quick ratings splurge. How short cited of them to alienate those who made the mistake of trusting them, just for a quick buck. By destroying thier reputation they will continue to suffer losses long after the Israeli/PLO conflict is covered by the media.

Controversy Sells. Most of the citizens of the United States are gentiles and CNN is playing to the crowd. It's a David and Goliath thing only different. Anyone that has had any experience in real life and then has witnessed the typical garbage that the media portrays can only come to three conclusions. 1). It is "ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS" 2.) Any simlarity between the Truth and the "News Story" is purely accidental. 3.) It is all about selling toothpaste. Boycott the Advertisers and we may get the attention of the bean counters. No Matter What, the bean counters will get the format changed in order to keep the toothpaste flowing. Who knows? Then maybe the truth may then be reported. And that's not such a bad thing.

Your article about CNN bias was witnessed by people I have talked with who visited Israel last January. They were on a Christian educational tour (with the same company and organization I made two such trips with in the past six or seven years). I believe it was Jericho they were in when they saw a CNN news crew go up to some Palestinian children and asked them to throw rocks. The children (or "youth") did so. CNN took news camera footage and then left. When the news crew left, the children went about playing again. I was told this by two or three individuals who said they personally witnessed that action. I was told by one man who was there that CNN was contacted, but of course, as expected, they denied the episode.

I think that we have to start worrying about why the Jewish nation is suffering all these casualties r"l, and not be so concerned about the non jewish journalism bias.

When the media, in this instance CNN presents the truth to the World you do not like it right? Your point of view will always be biased towards your own interests and objetives. I couldn't find a single jewish source that reported the incident where a palestinian recuer saved the life to an israeli boy (after the explosion of a palestinian bomb).
