Is it OK to use embryos for stem cell research or therapeutics if the embryo was created solely for this purpose and was not a left over from an in vitro fertilzation procedure? Would it matter if this embryo was formed in vitro itself or in utero? -0/5-/2007 |

I have been doing research on stem cell research for school. I have had a bit of trouble finding credible articles to use as references, but this article was extremely helpful and informative. - E. R. -1/1-/2004 |

This us the first time I have been able to learn so much about Stem cells and know how important they can be. Thank you.

There are many reasons cloning will not be allowed. I wasn't surprised to see the issue of genetic disease in single cell fetuses gone over so quickly, because it is almost impossible to do. If you would wait for the double stage, then take one of the cells and use it in a cycler, it may not be admissable to endanger the egg for even that short of time. But then to run a gell and hope you get the right answer, without contamination, well, it's a long shot for now. And putting a potential human in danger to help other people is just not such a simple hashkafa that most Jews subscribe to. We don't also subscribe to suicide bombers. And I doubt if too many of the people here would understand the discussion of stem cells, since there is much more you're not saying than you did say. I totally disagree with you, if you haven't realized that by now. - B. M. -0/3-/2003 |
