What a beautiful thing!! We have just had a daughter and called he ASHIRA. Everone wants to know after whom she is named. The answer is no-one. Ashira leHashem ki gamal alai - I will sing praises to Hashem for what he has done for me. Ashira leHashem bechayay - I will sing praises to Hashem with my life. That is our dream and that is our purpose.
Have a wonderful Shabbos -0/6-/2003 |

You say Menachem means "comforter". We named our son Menachem simply to carry forward the name of a deceased relative. HOWEVER, Menachem is indeed the most sensitive, caring, comforting person you could hope to meet! -0/6-/2003 |

I am the mother of 3 children. My heritage is German but mainly American. My 13 year old son is Mattaniah, my 8 year old son is Josiah, and my 7 year old daughter is Hannah. I found out a couple of years ago that my family fled from Russia to Germany to Canada and that they were Jewish. Nobody in my family for 100 plus years has practiced Judism. The need to give my children powerful, G-dly names was impressed on me while expecting my first. Nobody else that I know has cared about blessing their child with the name, but I did. It's astonishing to read this article today, many years after-the-fact and find out that what I did was in accordance with G-d's will. He truly is good! - S. . -0/6-/2003 |
